GOSHIN HO 3 Down 4 To Go

I've been doing a bit more Advanced Techniques lately. Things that I will be doing at Brown Belt and beyond. Today we did Goshin Ho "Self Defense Techniques". They're a lot of fun. We're learning to think beyond just using punches and kicks but the plethora of Techniques that we already know to avoid a situation.

Goshin Ho is what to do if someone grabs you by the wrist, both wrists, and by the upper outer bicep. I've only done the first three and have been told that there are seven of them.

I find these fun but a tad hard on the wrist and forearms. Time to bring in the forearm guards again. I actually prefer working with the female Karateka with these as the males tend to be slightly rough.

Today's Class was a fun Class. We did new Warm Ups. White Belt Basics. Green Belt Basics, and Goshin Ho.

  1. Strangely, I'd much rather work with the guys on these. Especially the ones who will make me work for the control or escape. For me there's absolutely no point just going through the motions. I need to know that I can make these techniques work IRL on someone who's not going to do "what they're supposed to do" to make it work. If I can get them right on a fellow (male) karateka who is really trying to hold on then my chances of working the technique should I ever really need it are much improved I think.
