Cloth Gear Vs Vinyl Gear
This Entry is about Sparring Gear and what I use and prefer and why. SIN GUARDS
The Gear I have for Sparring are: Helmet, Eye Protection, Mouth Guard, Chest Protector, Cloth Arm Guards (seldom use), Shin Guards with foot protection, and Karate Chops (Gloves). I have both Cloth and Vinyl Shin Guards.
My Cloth Shin Guards are great. I used them a lot in the beginning and I use them when we do light sparring. Except the toes are exposed and open to injuries from kicking. I've injured my big toe a few times. I also have a problem with slipping on the floor with the cloth part (under wrap) that goes under your foot. And also in these my ankle is exposed to being kicked. Which it has.
There are Shin Guards that just protect the Shin (which I also have) but I found that they do not protect me well enough.
The Vinyl Shin Guards are great. Especially now as I am doing a little bit more Sparring and am Sparring against Senior Belts, and sometimes I spar with the males in Class. With these my foot is completely covered, my ankle is covered, and my toes are nicely snug and covered. I do not slide on the Floor in these as the under wrap is not as wide.
Cloth is great for light Sparring and they are not as hot as the Vinyl ones but for all and out protection I prefer the Vinyl. For all around Protection for the Ankle and Toes the Vinyl are better for me.
